PROJECT THREE - DOUBLE HOUSE + GARDEN

The brief for this design studio was to design two houses and a garden on Victoria St, Potts Point. The site is west facing with panoramic views of the city and is very steeply sloped as it sits on the top of the sandstone ridge that runs along Potts Point toward the harbour. Another requirement of this studio was that the design had to take into consideration the precedent studies TO SEE and PROGRAM+ on the Villa Muller by Loos.

The brief asks us to design for an art collector and one other person. My narrative for the brief is that the collector lives in the top house full time with his partner. The lower house is the smaller of the two and is for a resident sculptor. Both houses are surrounded by a sculpture garden that can be accessed by the public.

The collector requires a five metre high space for exhibiting his collection of sculptures and other installations as well as a smaller space for exhibiting photographs. He also requires a small office and storage for his collection as well as the usual living arrangements. The resident sculptor's house includes a studio space where he creates works for the collector  and for display in the garden.
